openMindMap is a desktop tool for:

  • organize notes, ideas, pointers (to any URL)
  • make it easy to find what you look for via the natural ideas association mechanism
  • help you in find out if the way you think at a problem is correct
  • highlight otherwise unnoticed links between items
  • keep a network based central repository for all your informations
  • share whatever part of your information repository with whoever you want
All of this is based on a graph approach (as opposite to the tree based approach used by most filemanagers).
The graph approach lets you to have more than one parent for each item, or to connect any to nodes in the structure, doesn't matter where they are

W e have already developed a prototype with the basic functionalities.
It is possible to add/retrieve items and related information to/from the repository.
It could be useful to organize the users' files in the way he thinks at them avoiding the "noise" of the typically overcrowded directories.
The user can also mix links to files with links to his/her notes, contacts etc.

It is our intention to release only stable versions.
The difference between one realeses and the next should only be in the increased number of implemented functionalities.
The forseen first release date is around the beginning of December.

A first relese for Developers is downloadable under Technical Infos

If you are interested in openMindMap, you can just send a mail to anyone of the authors with "openMindMap" in the subject and/or in the body. As soon as we have a stable release we send you a notification! Any incoming message is read by the openMindMap authors, so if you add whatever question and/or suggestion you like into the same mail, it would be appreciated.

W e want to stress our commitment to follow the free software foundation principles. Our gratefulness goes to Richard Stallmann and all the persons which are giving their contribution to the OpenSource community.

Best regards,
        openMindMap Developers.
